The transformation of the basement

These are all taken from the same point on the stairs going down into the basement from street level; looking back towards the front of the house (the door straight ahead is the bathroom, which is cunningly tucked in under the front stairs - see later photos). Tradesmen did all the really heavy stuff - damp-proofing, installing the central heating, plastering, electrical wiring, plumbing, etc, which had all been done by the first of these shots - but Juliet did most of the replacing of wood-wormy and dry-rotten floorboards, and we all pitched in for sanding and painting and filling and so on for the transformation you see in these three shots. We worked on it pretty solidly throughout December, January and February (whilst all also working full time) and I finally moved in at the very end of February (just in time to be burgled, the very next day, but that's another story).

This wasn't even a bathroom before; it was a dirt-floored hole under the stairs and Bron the genius fit a bath, shower and basin into that tiny space. It's a fab bathroom; one of the best I've ever seen.

To be continued... this program apparently doesn't like too many images at once.
