This morning:

I was crossing Haggerston Park in the dim grey and momentarily saw the sun caught in the clouds behind the old hospital on Goldsmith's Row... I thought the silhouette looked like something out of Tintin, and I raced to get my camera out of my bag before the moment passed. Ten rapid shots later, and all was grey again.

The London Walks: Hyde Park

Between Christmas and New Year I spent some time at Anita's, in Marylebone... we had lunch with Sharon, and then after seeing her onto a train at Paddington, we continued on into the city, traversing Hyde Park with great stridingness. It wasn't as empty as it looks, but otherwise I think these pics capture the mood pretty well.

(We ended up in the Royal Academy that afternoon, sitting for hours in the Friends' Room after seeing the Rodin exhibition, drinking fruit tea and coffee as the winter evening drew itself up outside, and after that we went and saw An Inconvenient Truth at the Prince Charles (anyone who hasn't seen it yet, why not? I'm waiting for an answer), but I don't have pictures of any of that ;)).

The London Walks: Whitehall

I love walking from Trafalgar Square, down Whitehall to the Houses of Parliament... I love the lions and the fountains in the square itself, and Nelson's Column, all newly clean, defies photographers with its tallness... it's SO cool to be familiar with everything; see the clusters of tourists outside Horse Guards or Downing Street but just be blasé about it all, and to see Big Ben in your own backyard. Glimpses of St James' Park through archways on one side, and the Eye between buildings on the other, are an added bonus.
